The No Plastic Bracelet

This no plastic bracelet is right up my alley. The beads are made from eco-friendly cornstarch-based resin with a dye made from natural herb tea. The recycled brass charm is the word “plastic” in a circle with a line to cross out the word. Even the card that comes with the bracelet is 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper printed with a soy based ink.

The goal of the organization making the bracelet (Everybody Green) is to raise $1 million for environmental organizations by the end of 2008. A portion of the purchase price of this $10 bracelet will be donated. The $10 includes shipping.

Wood Sunglasses

I nearly fell off my chair when I discovered these beautiful handmade wood sunglasses at this green and fashionable store. When I clicked on the accessories button and discovered the sunglasses, I figured they’d be made of plastic. I was already wondering how the store would spin using plastic and if they’d use recycled plastic and call it a day.

I’ve been looking for moderately priced bags to use for our many visits to the grocery store. For us, visting the grocery is a daily venture.

Sure, I can buy some ugly store-sponsored bags from my local health food store for $1, but I want some that look, well, pretty. These attractive bags caught my eye. I’d use these for groceries, other shopping, the pool and as a general tote-in-place-of-a-purse. They offer a variety of designs in these autumnal colors. And they even offer a series of environmentally friendly bags with retro funky designs. At $33 for a pack of 5 bags, these are quite a steal!

Green Grocery Tote from Go-Again

These polypropylene bags from Go-Again have comfortable handles and are roomy enough for lots of groceries. I like these shorter bags because it prevents too many groceries from stacking up and crushing what’s beneath them. I also like the stiff sides of the bag, which helps to keep items in place (so your apples do not fall to the bottom only to be crushed by something heavier). They are not stylish, yet they are a good price and the green color might send a subliminal “green” message to other shoppers who see you. So, yes, these are technically made of plastic, yet they are here because they’re reusable and, if used, will reduce the number of disposable plastic bags created.
