If your child is not ready for ceramic plates and bowls, you can use steel.

These stainless steel bowls can work as mixing bowls or serving bowls. The smaller bowls can also be used to serve children oatmeal or cereal.

The ones I found to the right are on Overstock.com, and I’m not sure how much longer they’ll be available. The items on that web site fly out the doors at times.
